If you
send VI some show info it’s a 99.9% chance that
someone will be there. Such was the case for this
show. When I woke up Saturday morning and saw the
rain I gave Mel, our VP a call to check to see if
we were still attending. He said this show was optional
(It’s been a busy season. This year VI has participated
in over 40 shows.) Since I was already in my car show
mind set, I decided to make the 40 minute journey
in the rain to Bethesda alone. I didn’t even
know if the show would be cancelled due to rain. I
didn’t even pre-register. What if I got there
and the show was cancelled or there were no more spots
left? Well, the only way to find out... was to make
the trip. So, I got directions from Map Quest, filled
the tank, and hopped on I-95. It was an easy drive.
I was still concerned that the show may not take place
because it was still raining. When I got close to
my final exit, more rain and road work slowed down
the traffic. I finally arrived about 10:45 AM. I was
greeted by two volunteers who directed me to park
and informed me that I was the only female showing.
This was a very interesting show. It was sponsors
by Chevy Chase Cars. Vehicles that arrived early were
parked inside on the showroom floor and the rest were
placed in a parking garage that was connected to the
showroom area. There were 22 classes and vehicles
dating from 1942 to 2001. As I was cleaning my wheels,
I heard a familiar voice...it was Manny, another VI
member. He was taking a break from work and came past
to check-out the show. The rain finally stopped about
noon. Judging began at 1PM and awards where given
at 4PM. I’m proud to say I represented VI by
winning 1st place in my class. Yeah, a win for me
means a win for VI.
I’m
glad I took the trip!
